Which programs are covered by the Career Pathways Scholarship?

At GTC, all credit-based offerings are included, with the exception of Arts & Sciences programs, the applied bachelor’s degree in advanced manufacturing technology, and dual enrollment courses. Certain non-credit programs are also included.

Please note: Pre-Health Sciences and Pre-Nursing students who are currently enrolled as Associate of Science students are not eligible for the scholarship until they are accepted and enrolled into the Health Sciences/Nursing program they have selected.

Who is eligible?

In order to qualify for the Career Pathways Scholarship at GTC, academic students must

be South Carolina residents
be enrolled in an eligible program
have a high school diploma or GED on file with GTC Admissions
have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file at GTC
if an existing GTC student, maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher while enrolled in a credit program (does not apply to new students who have never had a previous academic record at GTC)

The following student types are not eligible: career development, transient, dual enrollment/Early College and international students.

If you’re interested in one of GTC’s eligible non-credit programs, contact the program director for those areas. Non-credit programs do not require an Admissions application or completed FAFSA.

How much does the scholarship pay?

For the 2024-25 academic year, this scholarship pays up to $5,000 a year (split over two terms) for tuition, books and course-related materials. Up to $2,500 will be awarded for Semester 1, up to $2,500 will be awarded for Semester 2 with award amounts as follows:

$2,500 (full time, 12+ credit hours)
$2,000 (6-11 credit hours)
$1,000 (1-5 credit hours)

How are the funds awarded?

Do I need to apply for this scholarship?

No, the funds are automatically applied when you meet the criteria listed.

How do I know if I am eligible for this scholarship?

The Financial Aid Office will review students regularly. Those meeting the criteria listed will be notified of their award eligibility via GTC email. Offer letters can be found by going to GTC4me, Self Service for Financial Aid.

When will the scholarship funds pay my GTC charges?

2024 Fall financial aid will begin applying to academic student accounts on September 30th.

2025 Spring financial aid will begin applying to academic student accounts on February 17th.

2025 Summer financial aid will begin applying to academic student accounts on June 23rd.

Can I get a refund of any unused amount after my tuition, books, and course-related materials have been paid?

No, unused amounts will not be refunded.

Are developmental courses included?

Yes

Are dual enrollment students eligible?

No. Thanks to an agreement with Greenville County Schools, tuition, books, and Inclusive Access materials are paid by the district for their students. Please note that tuition for Early College students is based on the student’s high school enrollment.

What if I have to retake a credit bearing course – is that covered?

Yes, as long as you maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher.

What if I have to retake a non-credit course – is that covered?

Are pre-Health Sciences and pre-Nursing students eligible?

Pre-Health Sciences and Pre-Nursing students who are currently enrolled as Associate of Science students are not eligible for the scholarship until they are accepted and enrolled into the Health Sciences/Nursing program they have selected.

When is the deadline for changing degree programs in order to qualify for the Career Pathways Scholarship?

All program changes must be made during the add/drop period at the beginning of each term and prior to the start of the first class for which you are enrolled each term. For students in ALL Flex courses, changes must be made during the designated Flex add/drop period and prior to the start of the first Flex class for which you are enrolled. Program changes will not be made after the add/drop period at the beginning of each semester.
